Vehicle Pollution

If you're a fellow resident of Laredo, then you'd understand my grievances I have with this city and it's civilians, cops but most of all, drivers. I mean, anywhere I'd go it's the same thing right? I mean come on, it's Texas. Don't complain about Laredo, because everywhere you go, it will be the same thing but with other races and different cultural backgrounds. But what is it with Laredo that drives people insane?

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't want to move out of here 'cause this place is so boring I find it exciting to get out of here. If I were residing in an exciting place, I'd be bored easily. Also because a person from Laredo has a gravitational pull back that attracts them back to their hometown so they'll be back for some reason and find that they're more comfortable here than that other place you went. Why is that though? My main criticism about Laredo is the drivers and the fuckers who think they're so cool playing their music in their car. You can't afford a regular boom-box but you can afford a pimped out car? Fucking assholes.

So to continue, currently, Laredo has had two victories, politically I mean. So far, people were criticizing our politicians, for many things of course, but two that will come up on everybody's mind is the lack of a bookstore and the drive-thru's/pole dancers. Two victories there last month, in the same week for Mayor Raul Salinas. A book store is now open where the previous one was plus if the dancers outside the drive-thrus are seen dancing, will be heavily penalized with a hefty fine.

I just have to say wow and all this time I was beginning to think he was only a ribbon slasher where no ribbon in sight will be left behind. He is with every citizen, every step of the way. But honestly, I feel cheated. Fuck, if we can get rid of strippers outside a drive-thru, we can get rid of people period! So I decided to write him a letter, fuck it you know? I discussed about my own disputes to bring to the table about it's citizens. If Mami Chula's aren't safe from criticism then why not it's own people?

Dear Mayor Raul Salinas...

Hello Mr. Salinas, let me begin to congratulate you on your two previous victories by shutting up those, for the lack of a better word, bitches and for actually pursuing different companies to establish a bookstore here in Laredo and succeeded. Mayor Salinas, you have pulled through for all the angry citizens here in this town, such as the people who were mad at the look our city got because of the lack of a bookstore, and in addition to the people who lack the capacity to achieve a raging hard-on. Way to go! Everything that you've done is great, for the most part.

What isn't covered by for the most part SUCKS! (Greenberg rip-off). Every grievance that I am going to express deals with vehicles and their ignorant self-absorbed owners who lack compassion for their fellow drivers in the road and the ears of the people surrounding their vehicle.

First of all, it's been years of complaining from people and you have yet to fix the increasing problem of noise pollution infesting our city of Laredo. I mean, if you managed to defeat Mami Chulas, why not this? You know what I loathe, Mr. Salinas? Waking up at four o'clock in the morning because of the plaguing of every car's bass, and I know I don't speak for myself but every hard-working person from Laredo who has to wake up at 7 in the morning for work has to endure this, yet you have not managed to fix this situation. You of all people, should know that this is so horribly annoying.

Another personal frustration are the drivers who's driving resembles that close to the driving of a person who is mentally retarded. In fact, I shouldn't even compare them to people who are suffering from that because those drivers are FUCKING TERRIBLE and should've never been issued a driver's license. I hate having to go down at an H-E-B to watch some jerks pass by speeding to get to the other side of the street quickly. That, as I remember, is a crime, and why hasn't anything been done? You should really enforce this law. I hate the fact that people do this but because their neighbor's-cousin's-brother's-nephew's-prima's-cuñada is a police officer, they get away with it. I mean what is up with that? Tell your officers to grow a pair and let their family enjoy a good stay in jail for a day (or two). But then again, I'm pretty sure you and your fellow colleagues have done this as well and to me, that is very unprofessional because you are here to uphold the law, not find the loopholes and break it.

I know you won't do anything about this one but it bites my ass like a tick; last but not least, why do drivers have to have their high beams on at 6 o'clock no less?! I suffer from migraine headaches and any slight disturbance will set them off and you know how annoying it is to have a huge Chevy with loud basses and their high-beams on to the maximum point. Honestly, that makes me want to get off my car, grab my crow-bar and smash their vehicle's glass windows and lights and shove a bat straight up their rectums and turn them into a tootsie pop, but unfortunately none of my family members or neighbors, cousins, grandparents, brothers are police officers so I can't get away with it.

So Mr. Mayor, I ask you to please do something about this and I really doubt you will, but if it can be done enforce it!

Sincerely yours,
Hugo G. Rivera.

I Object!... donde están ustedes?

Oh god! If there's a band I really miss is I Object! So far, according to their MySpace page, they're only playing their area but just a few shows due to the fact that they're all working and attending college. What I would do to be able to attend those shows! If you don't know who I Object is a straight-edge, vegan, DIY, Hardcore-Punk band (¿Algo más guey?!) from New York who, unfortunately, have come down to Laredo twice but still have hit my heart harder than any other band that has come down to Laredo (sorry locals, no offense but this means you too).

What is it about bands with pissed off female vocalists that I really like? Fuck, I don't know, but anyway the last time they came down to Laredo was in March 21, 2007 I believe (this is a little story behind these days, if you ONLY want to download the album disregard this and go straight to the links below). The first time they came down to Laredo was on a Friday, but I'm not sure what date exactly. That night, this Texas band, At All Cost, was set to play and I remember all they hype prior to the show. They weren't that good but they were really nice guys. All I remember from their set now is Cher-like vocals with chugga-chugga breakdowns and bottles flying everywhere.

After they finished their set, it was announced that I Object! would play. I was very surprised 'cause they weren't on the flyer but of course, I was going to stay for this band. I remember seeing them and thinking "a la verga, pinches crusties". They finished setting up and the singer introduces the band: Barb-vocals, Biff-guitar, Ryan-Bass and Steve-drums. There was a crowd in front of them and before it all went insane, the only thing I recall is the slam to the snare drum and crash cymbals, slides of the guitar and bass and Barb screaming off of the top of her lungs "THIRD WORLD WARFARE!" thus initiating the beginning of their performance. It was energetic, fast, wild and fucking violent! Ever since that day, my jaw clicks like crazy and I left with a trophy on the back of my head and my hip... bruises. I bought their CD and I kept playing it every morning, day and night. Literally, it never left my CD player and because of it, it was taken by my old asst. principal at Cigarroa, Mr. Hooper because he saw me take it out during class. I was hooked on this band ever since then.

The next time they came down to Laredo was on their one of their days off of their tour. I first saw that on that day they had it off and jokingly added a comment on their MySpace Page that they can play Laredo on that day because it was between a date in Mexico and San Antonio. Later I got a reply from their bassists', Ryan, record label Punks Before Profits asking me to call and ask a promoter to see if they can host the show. I instantly went on Laredo Hardcore.net and got a reply and let Ryan know about it.

I was so stoked for that day that I printed flyers for it in the shitty printer at school. I passed them out but the very few kids at Cigarroa that attended or had attended at least a few Hardcore shows asked if Full Contact or Flawless Victory were gonna play that day. Of course they weren't and I tried lying but the flyer already had the bands posted down so it's not like they believed me. While leaving school, one trash can was almost full with my flyers. I instantly laughed hysterically while this gay security guard (not being offensive, he was gay) kept looking at me like if I was crazy. The reason why I laughed was because I thought they were fools. They were about to miss out on one of the greatest bands in Hardcore/Punk just because the locals weren't added. I thought "fuck them", more fun for me and besides, I always liked smaller shows better but this was for the bands monetary efforts and because they took time from their day off to play. Another reason why not that many people attended was because it was predicted to rain, fortunately for me, it didn't.

This was filmed a few days prior to their show here in Laredo.
Their set list are the following:
"Feeding Off Ourselves" off of Teaching Revenge
"8" of Crap 7" of Passion" off of The First Two years
"Ever Impressor" off of Teaching Revenge
"Foundation" off of their 4-Way Split Retro is Poison
"My Kid Has A Kid" off of The First Two Years

Well, out of the kindness of my heart, I have decided to share their music with you. I own the following:

I Object! The First Two Years
I got this when they played here the first time with At All Cost next to the McDonalds on Saunders.
This is actually pretty much a discography of everything they recorded plus four new songs which are the first played.

I Object! Teaching Revenge
Unfortunately, my demonic nephews broke my Teaching Revenge LP,
but luckily I downloaded the album off of SoulSeek

PBP Presents... Karnvapen Attack, Active Minds, I Object and Ciril: Retro is Poison.

This one, unfortunately, being that it's an LP, I need to get a vinyl-MP3 converter. Being that, I don't have anything other than two I Object songs I got from their MySpace page. I'll post them later. Anyways, here's their other ones, enjoy them!

"Surprise" by Fifteen!

As my first music post, I decided to upload and give you the pleasure to listen to a great band. If you're a fan of 90's Punk Rock outfits such as Green Day, Jawbreaker, Less Than Jake, Propaghandi, Squirtgun, Pinhead Gunpowder, The Offspring, The Bouncing Souls or Rancid, then you most likely will enjoy this album. In fact, some of these groups originated from the same area as well and even shared the stage in the famous Californian venue 924 Gilman Street.

I would like to give you a brief story as to how I stumbled upon this album, if you don't want to read it, disregard this and just go below and click on the link which will direct you straight to the download.

Around late 2007, my brother started working at Goodwill doing community service hours for autistic students. One day I was sick and had to stay home from school and my mom had to go see him at Goodwill. While waiting for him to come out, I decided to look at their shit. I actually found a really old Napalm Death shirt but it was Medium, I'm a large/X-large. I continued to look through the store where I ended up in the music section. Like always, you can never find anything in these stores other than compilation albums like Classic Hits of the 80's or Country hits, but this time I found this CD from Fifteen. I had always heard a few tunes from them, but nothing that actually got through me and made me think it was spectacular but it was $1 so I really didn't want to leave it there.

Leaving the store, I popped it in the CD player and the entire time I was nodding my head to the music and couldn't wait to get home to rip it to my computer. From that day on, I was hooked and that CD never left my shitty MP3 at the time or my car's radio. I'm not lying, I still have it there waiting for whenever I'm driving.

Fifteen came at a time in my life where I was angrier and more depressed than I've ever been before. I won't lie, I was doing a lot drinking at the time. I had a shitty social life, shows were getting weak (in my opinion), no girl spoke to me (no joke), shitty job at Little Caesars, and there was a tremendous pressure on my shoulders by my parents, counselors and every other person above me who kept telling me I have to choose a career in order to live a good life. Fuck everyone. This CD, just like the title, really Surprised me, and the rest of Fifteen's music really helped me cope with a lot of shit. I love this band so much, more than AFI, The Misfits, Minor Threat, none of those motherfuckers ever made me feel good compared to the music by Fifteen.

Compared to the rest of those California bands, they don't compare to Fifteen. Jeff Ott is an phenomenal musician and an amazing guitarist and I'd wish they'd get back together but according to various online sources, they never will get back together unless he does a mini tour and plays some acoustic stuff from his own library of music plus Crimpshrine and Fifteen tunes.

So here it is, I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do. There's many pop-punk bands out there but it makes me sad that none of them make reference to Fifteen at all. Off-topic, but I hate the label "Pop-Punk". Even fucking Green Day does Fifteen covers to this day in their tours, while bands give them shit when they really shouldn't be. My only regret is that I should've picked up to them way before '08.

"You might wanna put on your trunks, 'cause you'll be channel surfing in no time": Three reasons as to why I think "The Cable Guy" is one of Jim Carrey's best films.

You know what I really don't like? People who give a lot of shit to actors who play a role that we, the audience, have gotten comfortable with, and now see them playing a totally different performance, receive a lot of grievances for it. I understand, that change may be good or bad, but why are we so conservative when it comes to situations like that? I've never liked being conservative, which is why sometimes I'm so self-destructive, but in the end remaining conservative, or playing it safe, is just downright annoying. One example is this; I hate staying at hotels that give me that "being right at home" feeling. Excuse me Embassy Suites, I left my home so I would not have that "at home" experience.

Usually we think that acting isn't that much of a job because all they're doing is talking in front of a camera, but in reality it's a lot more than that. Actors really put themselves out to deliver a great performance, all in the name of entertainment. One actor/director is Jackie Chan, who has literally risked his body and life by engaging in life-threatening stunts, all in the sake of our own entertainment, so when we give shit to actors for their performance, if it was at least any good, it's just a slap to the face. A certain actor who has had to deal with our criticisms for a specific role is Jim Carrey in The Cable Guy at first as Ernie "Chip" Douglas, then changes to Larry Tate and then finishing it by naming himself "Ricky" Ricardo of the TV show I Love Lucy.

One main reason I have in mind is because of Jim Carrey's performance as an antagonist. I really enjoy majority of Jim Carrey's movies because he is an amazing actor. Unlike most other comedians, Jim Carrey can actually star in serious dramatic films as well but when have you caught a movie where he perfectly plays the villain?

But then again, isn't he already insane?
Please, answer me that. Honestly, when have you seen Jim Carrey actually play a psychopathic character? We never see him play an honest mentally deranged role? I mean, we've watched him play his cooky, moronic self as the antagonist in Batman Forever, the Riddler, but it just wasn't right. In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but he fucking sucked as the Riddler. You, Jim Carrey fanatics can blow me for all I care, but that was not the Riddler, the criminal mastermind we all know and love from Batman: The Animated Series or even the comic books. Truthfully, he reminded me of the campy Riddler portrayed by Frank Gorshin, but the problem is that those Batman series were funny, while this was supposed to be an action movie... it was meant for kids so go figure. Also, that was just watching Ace Ventura dye his hair orange-red and wear a green jumpsuit. I can admit, I enjoyed it as a child, but when I watch those Batman movies without Michael Keaton, I feel like slapping Warner Bros. for making such horrible movies. If he could've portrayed the real Riddler, not that joke Schumacher made him play, he could've been a great villain.

Another reason why I believe this movie is one of Jim Carrey's best is because of the amazing cast that was involved working in this movie. Various of actors played an incredible part in the movie such as protagonist Matthew Broderick, Jack Black, Leslie Mann, Owen Wilson and of course Ben Stiller. This cast works great throughout the movie and even helps the flow of it because there really isn't much of a back-story to them but unlike most side-characters that you know nothing of them, it's pretty much given away. Ben Stiller's characters especially as twin brothers Sam and Stan Sweet. He's not really a main character, but is a part of a publicized trial of the murder of his twin brother. I really like his connection to the movie because everybody is involved into watching this murder trial that even the cable guy states "I hope they fry this bastard", or something like it.

One last reason as to why this is one of Jim Carrey's best is because... hell, it's Jim Carrey! Is there really another reason? Well... yes, there could be many more reasons but I'm not going to spend my entire time writing about it being that I'm limited (not really, I'm just lazy). Let me continue, it's Jim Carrey! Come on, he's proved countless of times that he can do really good comedy and drama movies so think about it. In reality, it's not that it's him, but the transition of characters that he did from Ace or the Mask but this adjustment fit real well for the movie. Why it got bad reviews is beyond me because this performance demonstrated an improvement of his career but it obviously backfired which it really shouldn't have.

To end it all, we have yet to see, Jim Carrey, play a good villain in a movie. This here, will be the closest we can get to see him take on the role of a great villain and yet act like himself and be funny to an extent. Don't mention The Number 23 I swear 'cause now that was a horrible movie! If you really want to see him in a bad movie, go that way, but don't drag me with you. Anyway, that's all I have to say for the moment. If you'd like to continue talking about it or mention a good or bad quality of the movie just mention it in the comments below.
Thanks for reading!
P.S.
I'm uploading an album by Fifteen right now! It should be done in ten minutes and I'll be back here to post them in an instant!

Friday, June 3, 2011

Wow, CDC, you just made my day.

Well it's been a whole two weeks without posting something and I bet you motherfuckers are so happy to have been free from the clutches of my posts! Maybe you really didn't think about it, but I have nothing to write about... really. I mean I've tried and tried countless of times, but obviously nothing comes to mind so I have like four drafts saved. Don't you worry though, I know what I have in mind, now all I need to do is to just type it, but I can't because I just started working. Yes, I just started working with my dad's electric company and it's a pain in the ass 'cause it's so time consuming.

Although I've been working all this time, I've had like a bunch of ideas of what to write here. I tried writing a letter to Casey Anthony, the murderous bitch who killed her baby, Charlie Manson, and Sylvia Browne but it all went to hell. You know, that bitch actually thought she knew why Harold Camping got the Rapture date wrong? I mean, sure the guy fucked up and now says that Rapture isn't going to end in October, it's going to being in that month and honestly it's absurd! Even though I feel that way, Sylvia Browne is no one to criticize or even try to correct someone else!
Who does she think she is, Chuck Norris?!
I don't think so, filthy yeast-infected bitch.

By the way, Harold Camping came out of hiding and I finally was able to send him my letter. Anyway, so today, my dad gave me the day off because we lacked a long ladder that he was in possession of and my truck was too small for it to fit but I'm really upset 'cause now that means that I'll be working tomorrow instead. First thing I did was drink my cappuccino from the Stripes, but it tasted like shit so I threw it away. I played my I Wish My Brother George Was Here album by Del tha Funky Homosapien and then stumbled to what just made my day.

I love zombies so much, I wish I had one of my own!
According to The Walking Dead Facebook page, the Center For Disease and Control Prevention, actually posted on their blog-site what to do, prior, a zombie outbreak! Now, personally, I love zombies. The weird thing about it is that whenever I watch a zombie movie, I get hungry. I don't know, I just get really hungry afterwards. This is pretty cool though, the CDC actually acknowledges the fact that there could be a zombie outbreak. Could they be the ones that decided to create one or were they informed or persuaded by people to make one? Now, personally, I love zombies. From movies such as Dawn of the Dead, books comparatively to I Am Legend (vampiric zombies nonetheless), and even TV shows such as the recent The Walking Dead and of course video games similar to the Resident Evil series!

Pretty much, anything that fits the zombie criteria, I'll most likely like it. The history behind zombies as well is just fascinating especially the stories behind the mediums mentioned are just chilling considering that it could either be the works of Black Magic or a disease. I mean, don't you get chills behind your neck when you think about it? Come on, unlike most of the monsters in Hollywood, where the characters are in search to destroy the monster, these monsters are in preying instead and the characters have to seek survival.

But see, this is the thing that gets to me. I've read from books to articles about "Zombie Preventions" such as the Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From The Living Dead which is one of the books that actually contains on what to do if such catastrophe actually were to exist. Honestly, for it to be only a humorous book written for kicks, it gives great tips, but this isn't what I'm getting to. Besides, I already knew what to avoid and what to obtain or where to travel. The thing I'm getting to is how people are actually just waiting for that one day to happen. Certain individuals are quite existent about this. What can you possibly do though? In this day and age anything can happen. Back in the late 70's, early 80's, people doubted that the Muslims would achieve power and look at them now! Saudi Arabia is thriving with money (and blooming in poverty!, just ask my friend Jaime) when the Red scare was high. The comparison isn't irrelevant, in fact, think about it. If something that probably like that was unlikely, look at this now. I'm not saying it will happen, but people are terrified if such occasion would occur that the CDC had to come in and slap society in the face and yell "calm the fuck down woman!".

In the end, repeating myself, I can't clearly state that it won't happen, but the fact that people are frightened makes it much more humorous. Underneath is the link and I think you'll be interested in reading!
